In this class, the focus on alignment empowers students to develop a deeper understanding of each posture.  Poses are held to develop strength and heat in the body. Various breath techniques are used to enrich the practice and calm the mind.  This class gives students the confidence to take more advanced classes and perhaps even develop a personal practice. While geared toward beginners, this class is also great for students who want to refine their alignment and create stability in their yoga practice.

Chinese Martial Arts Strength Training

This strength training class is a fusion of eastern and western fitness regimens designed to change the body from the inside out. Originally developed as a physical conditioning program for the advanced martial arts, the program builds the strength, coordination, stamina and flexibility required for demanding physical exercise. Using a combination of isometric and aerobic body movements to tone and condition the body, the class combines both aerobic and anaerobic exercises to create a workout that strengthens the body’s cardiovascular system, core muscles and tendons while gradually toning the skin and superficial muscles. It requires very little space, no weights or equipment, and it’s fun.  Once you learn the principles and practice you can take it with you anywhere and practice your entire life.

Schedule:
  • Thursday every week at 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm, teacher: Ato

Gratitude Gita: Bhagavad Gita Study Group

Revered as one of the most sacred wisdom texts of the East and widely considered a foundational treatise on yoga practice, the Bhagavad Gita brings readers to the intersection of spirituality and the human experience. Though millennia old, its refreshingly practical and comforting wisdom is as relevant today as it was in ancient times. In this weekly facilitated study of the text, we will embark on a journey through the teachings of the Gita and explore how those teachings resonate with our experiences and struggles in the here and now. We will examine a number of themes raised by the Gita, and use the Gita’s own core of Bhakti Yoga-the path of love, grace, and gratitude-as a lens through which to encounter the rest of the book. Interactive exercises, small group discussion, and opportunities to meditate and reflect on the teachings will help transform our study from the informational to the experiential.  Sessions will be facilitated by Vineet Chandler, Director of Hindu Life at Princeton University. All are welcome, no previous experience with the text is required.  Materials will be provided. Suggested donation: $5/session or $75 for all 20 sessions.

Schedule:
  • Wednesday every week at 7:30 pm to 8:45 pm, teacher: Vineet

Healing Meditation

There is no power on this planet greater than the Word. It is by the power of Word that all things seen and unseen have been created. Sound keeps the universe in balance. It has the ability to heal and revitalize the autonomic nervous system; it facilitates a merger with our soul and the boundless energy and creativity within.  Through listening to or chanting mantras, you can move from darkness to light, from negativity to positivity. Mantras create a healing flow of love and a radiant shield of protection.  This class includes a yoga set, pranayam (breathing exercises), meditation with mantra, and teachings on how to use the technology of mantra and sound to deepen your yoga and meditation practice.

Schedule:
  • Wednesday every week at 9:15 am to 10:15 am, teacher: Nina

Kali Yoga

Moving beyond the mat, this class explores the intelligence of the body as it moves through space, responding to the weight of gravity, the lightness of air with the fluidity of water.  Drawing from influences of Yoga, Ideokinesis, Feldenkrais, Modern Dance, and other somatic techniques, we integrate movement re-patterning explorations to develop movement/body awareness, mobility, core strength, and fluidity.  This class will deepen our practice, and develop new movement possibilities that bring your body, mind, and spirit into alignment with joyful, honest expression.

Schedule:
  • Wednesday every week at 9:00 am to 10:15 am, teacher: Mecquel

Kids In Motion Yoga ages 5-12

Kids In Motion is a yogabased movement/dance practice. As childhood is the time when motor learning is being established, through the process of play, and exploration, we are building brain patterns for a lifetime of coordination, strength, and range of motion. Drawing on techniques from modern dance, improvisation, ideokinesis, and other somatic modalities, movement is offered as a means of learning, problem solving, communicating, enjoyment and expression.

Schedule:
  • Monday every week at 4:15 pm to 5:15 pm in the Loft, teacher: Mecquel

Kundalini Yoga & Meditation

Kundalini Yoga is known as the Yoga of Awareness. It is a dynamic, powerful technology appropriate for all that is designed to trigger an experience of the unchanging Self. In each class, we use movement, sound current, breath and meditation to relax and heal your mind and body, allowing the spirit to flow freely. Kundalini Yoga brings a greater feeling of well-being and happiness - our natural birthright as humans. This powerful and effective form of Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, Ph.D., Master of Kundalini Yoga, is a great way to recharge and heal your body quickly. How? By stimulating the nervous and immune systems, while improving strength and flexibility, as it centers the mind and opens the heart. From your very first class, you'll reap the rewards.
